Beşiktaş JK are one of the powerhouses of Turkish football. Such is their storied history and prestige, the Istanbul club have never been relegated from the top league.
The club was founded on 26th January 1911 and was officially the first-ever registered sports club in history.
Beşiktaş JK currently plays in Vodafone Park, a modern all-seater, multi-purpose stadium, which was opened on 11th April 2016.
Previously, the Turkish Süper Lig giants played their home games at the Beşiktaş İsmet İnönü Stadium which opened in 1947. The stadium has gone through several different names including Dolmabahçe Stadium (1947-1952), Mithatpaşa Stadium (1952-1973), and the İnönü Stadium (1973-2013)
The stadium first opened on 19 May 1947 and was officially opened by İsmet İnönü, the second President of Turkey, and Lütfi Kırdar, the Governor of Istanbul. The first-ever football match at the old stadium was a match between Beşiktaş JK and AIK Stockholm of Sweden on 27 November 1947.
Such was the stadium's close association with Beşiktaş JK, that in 1998, it was rented out to Beşiktaş JK for 49 years. In 2004, there were extensive renovation works performed on the stadium. The old stadium had its final hurrah in 2013 when it was torn down in order to build the new modern home ground.
