Sky Stadium, Wellington, New Zealand
The Sky Stadium aka Wellington Regional Stadium in Wellington, New Zealand is the home stadium for Wellington Phoenix Football Club in the A-League.
Wellington Phoenix despite being in New Zealand, complete in the Australian A-League as they have been given licence to compete from Football Federation Australia.
Sky Stadium was constructed in 1999 and its unique bowl site size is 48,000 m². The grand opening was on January 3rd, 2000.
Aside from the Wellington Phoenix, it hosts the Wellington Hurricanes and Lions Rugby Union teams as well as the Wellington Firebirds Cricket Team and the New Zealand national football team. The stadium also hosts frequent music concerts.
The stadium was previously known as the Westpac Stadium for sponsorship reasons and is nicknamed "The Cake Tin" due to its shape.

Access - Getting There

The stadium is very easily accessible via a variety of transportation methods.
The easiest ways to get to the stadium are walking and cycling.
If fans decide to walk then they should go via Wellington Railway Station and follow the directions to the platform which takes fans right to the stadium.
There are three ways to reach the walk way. Fans can gain access via Thorndon Quay just north of the railway station or from near Shed 21 on the Port. Lastly, they can reach it directly via the train station directly from the platforms (8/7, 6/5, 4/3).
The walk is a scenic one as the walkway is about 650 meters long and takes about five to ten minutes.
Cyclists can leave their bikes for free on the ground floor of the Sky Stadium car park underneath the Western pedestrian ramp though there is limited space on match days.
The following Ferry terminals are close to the stadium: Interislander Ferry, Bluebridge Ferry and East by West Ferry.
Wellington Airport is approximately 10 km from Sky Stadium.
