Only eight teams remain in contention to win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. These include the bookies' favorites Brazil, second favorites Argentina and the current world champions, France.
England made the semifinals in 2018 in Putin's Russia, Croatia were the beaten finalists at the same tournament. Portugal, back in the days of Eusebio, were third in 1966 whereas Morocco's best result was the quarter-finals in 1998.
So which teams are likely to make the semi-finals?
On current form, Brazil should have too much flair and goal-scoring threat for Croatia who lack a finisher. Portugal, on fire against Switzerland, should have too much quality for Morocco, who if they won would reach the semis for the first time in their history.
The other two games are more difficult to call. England came through Group B easily enough and played well after a dodgy opening against Senegal in the quarters. The French, however, are a different kettle of poisson. Extra time? Penalties?
Netherlands v Argentina match ups recall the classic Dennis Bergkamp goal at the 1998 World Cup from a superb long ball from Frank de Boer. 2-1 was the score that day and we see that being the outcome this time around, too.
