Soccer - Sturridge sidelined until September
Daniel Sturridge is set to miss the start of next season after Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed that the striker is unlikely to play again until September following hip surgery. "It's a period of time out, but we're hopeful the problems and issues he's had have been resolved with the operation," said Rodgers. "We're anticipating it's going to be around September before he can actually start training and then it's about getting his fitness up." The 25-year-old scored 24 goals last term but his career has been dogged by a series of injuries. He missed virtually all of pre-season in 2013 after suffering ankle ligament damage on England duty and last summer he was sent home early from the Reds’ tour of America due to a hamstring strain. He has scored four goals in eight league starts for Liverpool this season. Liverpool can be backed at 13/5 to beat Chelsea on Sunday, with the draw available at 5/2.
Soccer - Koeman keen for Rodriguez to stay
Southampton head coach Ronald Koeman hopes Jay Rodriguez will pen a new and improved contract with the club this summer. The former Burnley star has not played for more than a year because of a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and only has a season left on his contract at St Mary's. "He was talking to the club," said Koeman. "He's a good player and I think he will be an important player for next season. "If he stays, I think that is a good signal to the club, to everybody." Southampton face a Leicester City side this weekend that have won five of their last six game to move out of the relegation zone. The Foxes are 6/4 to beat Southampton while a draw can be backed at 23/10.
