Nearest challengers Gamba Osaka recorded a 3-0 home win, against fourth place Shimizu S-Pulse, in front of the Bampaku Stadium faithful, to close the gap at the top of the J-League to just three points.
Third place Kawasaki Frontale kept up the pressure at the top with a 2-0 home win over Kyoto Purple Sanga - a result that sent Kyoto to the bottom of the standings, as fellow cellar-dwellers Avispa and Cerezo, both managed 1-0 wins away against Albirex Niigata and Kofu Ventforet respectively.
Oita Trinita beat Kashima Antlers at home in Oita Stadium on Saturday to remain in seventh, one place below Antlers.
